The success of marriage comes not
in finding the "right" person, but in the
ability of both partners to adjust to the real
person they ineveitably realize they married.

"Is Everything Complete for the Wedding?"
It seemed so easy to meet, become acquainted, fall in love and decide on a wedding. For some it has been only a few weeks, for others it seems like years. All the details of planning, making decisions, executing ideas and seeing it all come together can be very satisfying and most often is. You are planning for a day to remember; a time to cherish, a very special event.
Is there anything that has been left out or overlooked? Many lists that help guide a couple in planning the wedding often leave out a bit of information. One bit of information that is omitted is the discount on the marriage license that a couple may obtain. The State of Georgia provides that when a certificate certifying premarital education is presented at the probate count when purchasing the marriage license a discount on the cost of the license is provided. In Henry County the encouragement to do this education amounts to a $35 discount off the cost of the marriage license. Other counties may vary in their fees.
To obtain the premarital education a couple must present a form signed by a competent provider that the education has been done. Persons competent to provide such education are professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapist who are licensed, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, or an active member of the clergy provided they are trained and skilled in premarital education. A certificate of completion is signed and notarized by the provider for the marriage license office.
This Georgia Law for obtaining a marriage license is not a requirement, but an encouragement for couples to do this pre-marriage education or “counseling”. According to the law premarital education “shall include at least six hours of instruction involving marital issues, which may include but not be limited to conflict management, communications skills, financial responsibilities, child and parenting responsibilities, and extended family roles.” Other issues a counselor or clergy may require will depend on their knowledge, discipline, and their religious orientation. I.e.: a clergy may want to talk to the couple about their spiritual life and religious commitment. They will be guided by their denominational directives, their religious orientation and their experience in providing counseling and education to couples. You may get professional help from others as listed above.
Where ever you go for such education be open to the professional guidance offered. The instruction is for your encouragement to strengthen you relationship, hope for your happiness in the future as a married couple.
May your wedding day be an extra special time and your entire marriage be blessed year after year as you grow together.
